MSP430F5527: Load USB2ANY firmware on MSP430 on TIDA-00428 EVAL Board

Part Number: MSP430F5527
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00428, USB2ANY, , MSP430F5529

Hi all,

I have purchased the TIDA-00428 evaluation board and I request your support as I have some trouble with the USB2ANY interface on the MSP430 microcontroller.

My supplier built the TIDA-00428 but he replaced the MSP430F5529rev K by the MSP430F5527rev H. I do not know if there is a link with my issue but when I use the USB2ANY explorer to upload the firmware (v2.8.2.0), I got a message that it is successfully sent but then, the explorer did not recognize the firmware on the TIDA00428.

For information, I also bought the USB2ANY interface adapter and it works fine with my computer (Windows 10 pro x64).

Do you have any idea where this issue is located ? Is there a specific procedure to upload the firmware in the MSP430F5527 ?

Thanks.

  • Hi Gregory,

The binary file that is included in the USB2ANY software package is built for the MSP430F5529 and not the MSP430F5527.  Is it possible to populate a board with the F5529 for test?  Is IC availability the reason for using the F5527 instead of F5529?

  • Unfortunately, we have built two TIDA-00428 boards with F5527 instead of F5529 due to IC availability reason. We thought that these both ICs were compatible (pins and integrated functions) and we do not have unpopulated board that we could evaluate soon. Is there a way to upgrade the binary file in the USB2ANY software in order to be compatible with the MSP430F5527 ?

  • Hi Greg,

The pinout is the same between the 2 ICs, but the memory(flash and RAM) is lower on the MSP430F5527.  There is not access to the source code in the USB2ANY package, which would be required to port the code to the F5527 device assuming the lower memory and RAM is ok.

Could you use your existing USB2ANY and wire it into the TIDA-00428 to bypass the onboard circuit?

  • Hi Eddie,

Thank you for this information. This confirm that I should replace the MSP.

For now I did not try but yes I can use the USB2ANY package with the TIDA-00428. It seems me that I could not access to both LMH on the evaluation board but only one what I understand from the schematic.. In parallel with my supplier, we will try to replace the MSP430F5527 by the 5529 that we could find on other evaluation board as the normal lead time for this IC is today more than 6 months.

  • No problem Gregory.  It is recommended to replace with the 5529 that the code is built for.
