EVM430-FR6043: LCD problems on EVM430-FR6043 with the TIDM-02005 reference design

Hello, I have the EVM430-FR6043 board and I am experimenting with the reference design TIDM-02005. However, I am having an issue with the LCD. After I flash the board with the code, I click the "Select" button and the LCD displays the data (Volume, DTOF, AVG DTOF, etc.). When I click the "Reset" button and then on the "Select" button the LCD will no longer turn on, the same thing happens if I disconnect the board from the USB (which turns it off because I am using USB to power it). In the USS Design Center I can see that the board is taking measurements so it is running the code, except the LCD does not show anything.

Summary: I flash the board with the code, press the "Select" button and the LCD turns on. Then if I disconnect it and reconnect it from power or click the "Reset" button the LCD no longer turns on when I click the "Select" button. However, in the USS Design Center I can see that it is still making measurements so I can assume that it is still running the code.

Hi Hugo,

Which firmware do you use?
Our USS Example code don't enable the LCD, and I don't find the software files for TIDM-02005.

Thus I think LCD should off always.

I am using this firmware. On the 27th page of the TIDM-02005 reference guide, on section 3.3.1.2 it tells the user to use the software package found in http://software-dl.ti.com/msp430/msp430_public_sw/mcu/msp430/USSSWLib/USSSWLibWater/latest/

Hi Hugo,

Which code do you use? Is FR6043 for Water Meter or FR6043 for Gas meter?

This reference design is for Water Meter based on FR6043, but there are need do some hardware change, as below:

And if you use the Gas Meter code, the LCD will be turn off always.

Hi Hugo,

I do some test, it seems very strange, we recommend that you can control the LCD via your own code.

I will to diagnose the root cause of this phenomenon.

Hello Johnson,

Thank your for looking into this issue. It is very strange indeed, there must be some kind of register, related to the LCD, that is not cleared when you reset or power off and then power on the board. Or something else, I am not very experienced.

Total agree, I will try to find the root cause. And you can control LCD via the below example code, and delete all LCD code in the project.
