MSP-EXP430G2: Undetectable board even after pertinent software installation (Windows 10)

Part Number: MSP-EXP430G2

Hello, everyone. I'm currently trying to get my Windows 10 laptop to recognize my MSP-EXP430G2 board through CCS 11.0. I've followed the recommended procedure of installing CCS IDE (full installation) as it should theoretically install the drivers needed for the Launchpad. Upon plugging in my board through USB and trying the "Detect my board" function in CCS, I am getting the following error message:

Upon checking Device Manager, I can see that I have an entry under the Ports (COM & LPT) section that lists the board as "MSP430 Application UART (COM12)". I've tried several possible solutions I found on Google, like installing MSP430Ware and installing the MSP Debug Stack, but have not found any success. I have encountered this issue with 2 separate boards, one of which was used and came from my colleague, so I know the board is working. Any tips?

  • Hi Aldon

Please confirm if there is no MSP Debug Interface in your device manager?

if there is no this Port, Please reinstall the driver on http://software-dl.ti.com/msp430/msp430_public_sw/mcu/msp430/MSP430_FET_Drivers/latest/index_FDS.html

    Thanks!

I just plugged a MSP-EXP430G2 into a Windows 10 PC on which CCS 11.0 was installed, and was able to download a program.

There isn't a "MSP Debug Interface" shown in the device manager:

I think the "MSP Debug Interface" only shows up when a eZ-FET based debug probe is used.

Whereas the MSP-EXP430G2 uses the previous generation eZ430 debug probe.

If change the device manager to View -> Devices by connection this shows the following under USB\VID_0451&PID_F432 which is the USB composite device for an eZ430:

I've followed the recommended procedure of installing CCS IDE (full installation) as it should theoretically install the drivers needed for the Launchpad.

Can you try and change your device manager to View -> Devices by connection and find the eZ430 as shown above and check Windows reports that "This device is working properly." for the USB Composite Device and the devices below it?

On the PC I used for the test had previously installed CCS 8 and CCS 10 versions, so haven't checked that the required drivers actually got installed by the CCS 11.0 installation (rather than say only by a previous CCS installation).
