MSP430F5510: What's the max output current of REF module when driving external load?

Part Number: MSP430F5510

What's the max output current of REF module when driving external load?
The datasheet doesn't list this number. The same with the REF on other MSP430F MCUs.

Also, is it recommended to use REF module to both drive external resistive load (with < 0.5mA load current) and supply ADC10 or ADC12 Vref internally at the same time?

  • Hi,

I couldn't find that data in the datasheet neither.

For the second question, you can not use the REF module both work at internal and external modes. Based on the User's guide chapter 26.2

  • It doesn't seem this is what the datasheet means. The original words mean, when REF module is used internally, the Veref+ pin can't be connected to a 2nd external voltage reference, because internal REF is connected to the same Veref+ pin. It doesn't mean REF module can't output voltage to Veref+ pin when activated internally.

From Figure 26-1, output voltage from REF should be available on "Variable Reference" line (connects to Veref+ pin). All the internal loads connected to this line are high-Z, except the resistive voltage dividers. So I don't see a reason why it can't drive an additional resistive load. Datasheet doesn't explicitly mention this, so I want to see a definitive answer.

  • Any hint on this? Datasheet and user manual don't provide this important figure.
