Part Number: MSP-EXP430G2
Is the MSP430 LaunchPad (MSP-EXP430G2) compatible with version 5.1.0.09000 of Code Composer Studio. Can I run it on the newer launchpads?

Hi Hamid,
Which SDK version are you using? Note, CCS 5.1.0.09000 was released 2011. The MSP-EXP430G2 user guide was last revised 2018-2020.
Do you get any errors when you try? I would try running a simple code example first.

Hello Henok, thanks for replying to my inquiry. I haven't installed the software nor have I purchased the launchpad yet. I'm getting into wooden gear clock making and PCB design and production. I found someone who wrote and provided some code for the pendulum movement using the MSP430G2211 chip and wanted to give it a shot at trying to reproduce with a custom build PCB. He stated he used version 5.1.0.09000 to write the code using GRACE... hence the reason for my question.
Hi Hamid,
I see. Can you attach a link here to the source code?
So the biggest factor to consider would be the SDK version used. The CCS version (5.1.0......) is just the IDE, any SDKs (new and old) can work in older CCS. Here are the release notes for the past SDKs.
I believe that it should work but my recommendation would be to try updating the open source code to the newest SDK so your launchpad will be running the most up to date software implementations.

Hi Hamid,
So after reaching out to teammates, I have found that we stopped supporting the GRACE tool a while ago. Hence why you cannot find GRACE on any ti.com landing page only the old PDFs from over a decade ago.
Looking at the code, I cannot tell exactly which SDK it is but it looks reproduceable with our most up to date SDK. If the GRACE tool was you main method for for this project then this would not work unfortunately.

Henok
