MSP430F67621: to measure 3 separate single-phase systems

Part Number: MSP430F67621

Hi Team,

Good day.

A customer is interested to know if the MSP430F676x1A series of devices can only be used on a single 3-phase system or if it can be implemented such as to measure 3 separate single-phase systems. Do we have a document for that?

Furthermore, if the device were to measure three separate single-phase lines, can the voltage from a single of these be used to perform the power calculations on all three lines (with accepted accuracy loss)? The product he is developing is intended to be a temporary device and should be as non-invasive as possible therefore he wishes to use three current coils to measure three separate lines and tap into only one 'Live' L line for the voltages, making the assumption that the voltage seen on one of the lines will be close enough to the others.

Thank you for extending your help.

Kind regards,

Marvin

  • Hey Marvin,

Our 3-Phase focused device could of course be used to measure three different single phase systems, as the underlying device needs would be the same; however, our energy measurement library is not setup in this way, and may take significant effort to make that work. If they are already making the assumption that the voltages is close enough for the others, then they could just treat it as a 3-phase system.

The accuracy of your system is going to be undermined by that core assumption  that the voltage are close enough to each other on the three systems. The Energy Measurement Design GUI is pretty flexible, so they would be able to add in 3 different coils and a voltage measurement (possibly more). All of the calculations though assume they are related, so total energy calculations would be a like a 3 phase system I would imagine.

In other words, this would be a bit of an R&D project from the customer to see they could conform our library to their needs, but the GUI should help them get them started quickly.

  • Hi Jace,

Thank you for the prompt response. Your support is much appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Marvin
