MSP-FET430UIF: Can't set COM port or communicate with device

I'm trying to program an MSP430 device using this programmer.

In the FET430 Lite software, I can see where to set the COM port, but it's stuck on "Automatic". It states that clicking this should make the Mode LED blink to indicate a connection, but my Mode LED never turns on.

I can't read the firmware version of the device or communicate with it in any way.
In my Device Manager it does show up on the COM port:

What do I need to do to make sure my device is actually working?

Hi,

Do you know what PC software this MSP-FET430UIF was used with? There have been some firmware update over the years that have broken backwards compatibility.

You might also trying seeing if Uniflash or CCS can connect to this device.

I'm using a Windows 10 machine. Looking at the USB drivers, it looks like it supports up to Windows 7...I'll try to get my hands on an older machine and see if that resolves it.

Ok please report back your findings. Newer MSPFET tools should work with Windows 10.
