MSP-TS430DA38: Programming using SpyBiWare problem with MSP-FET

Part Number: MSP-TS430DA38
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2955, MSP-FET

Hi there,

Right now I have MSP-TS430DA38 coupled with MSP430G2955. Changing JP4 to JP9 to position 2-3, I can program the MCU with 4-Wire JTAG without any problem using MSP-FET.

But changing JP4 to JP9 to position 2-1, I cannot program the MCU with 2-Wire SpyBiWare using MSP-FET. The error message is: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device. FYI, I use CC Studio with version 12.0.0.00009 to create the program and flash it to the MCU

After troubleshot, found out that if I connect only pin 1(TDO/TDI), 2(VCC_TOOL), 7(TCK), and 9(GND) from MSP-FET to MSP-TS430DA38 using jumper, I can program and debug the program using SpyBiWare. The problem arise when I connect 8(TEST/VPP), suddenly the error message is shown again.

I know that TEST/VPP is used to blown the fuse. Right now I'm still on development phase, so that feature is not required, but maybe later on we need that feature.

So bottom line, how I can program MSP-TS430DA38 using SpyBiWare with MSP-FET's 14-conductor cable and not using jumper? Did I miss something here?

FYI, our PCBA have the same design as MSP-TS430DA38, so 8(TEST/VPP) is always connected to MCU when using MSP-FET's 14-conductor cable, and using jumper is not good when we try to program the MCU in mass production. Using 4-Wire JTAG is out of question since we plan to use SpyBiWare only to reduce pin usage. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Sincerely,

Krisna
