MSP-EXP430FR5969: MSP430

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR5969
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALLIGATOR

Hello there, TI forum!

I am an EE, fairly inexperienced with a lot of hands-on embedded systems work (1 year in the field total) - I have a somewhat simple question, hopefully I can word it well enough:

I am using IAR Embedded Workbench IDE for MSP430.

I went to connect a signal generator to input pin (P2.5) to be used as a "clock".

I think one of my critical errors was trying to connect 1 of the 2 of my sig gen's alligator clips to GND while the USB power was plugged in - I brushed one of the other pins in the connector J5 row with the alligator clip, and the red on-board LED (LED101) turned on - for reference, this red LED is directly adjacent to the green power indicator LED (LED102) which turns on whenever USB power is connected.

Previously, I had placed a jumper over the red LED, P4.6 (LED1) to give me some extra indication of power - I noticed upon the next power up that this LED was MUCH more dimmed than before.

I took a DMM across VCC and VSS and noticed the drop was 1.02V - not good.

I am assuming I shorted something?

But maybe there is another quick answer.

Best,

Jacob
