Search for MSPs delivers wrong results

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2212

I was just searching for a MCU which fits my needs, so I looked at the MSP430G2xx series (http://focus.ti.com/paramsearch/docs/parametricsearch.tsp?familyId=1937&sectionId=95&tabId=2662&family=mcu). If I check the 10-bit SAR ADC column, I see (among others) the MSP430G2212. According to this table, it has an 10-bit SAR ADC. But if I look closer into the technical documents, they read only the MSP430G2x52 MCUs have this ADC.

So I guess this table is wrong and the technical documents are right. Is this correct?

  • These two chips have the same datasheet. I assume these are belonging to the same sub-family and the 'G2212 is just a spin of the 'G2x52. The 'G2212 is coming without ADC and the 'G2x52 has the ADC included.

  • Indeed, the parametric search is somewhat buggy.

It looks like someone has filled-in th data based on the idea that all devices in a datasheet are identical except for the size of ram and flash. This was right for 1x family and much of 2x/4x family, but many of teh newer devices are grouped in one datasheet but have different ADC, number of UARTs, I/O. So they have been entered wrong.

If you know the device properties, the errors in this search tool are obvious. f not, you can be easily fooled to look for the wrong device.
However, since usually the wrongly described devices share a datasheet with the 'right' one, you can pick the 'correct' part from the datasheet.
Only that you have to know this.

And it doesn't help that you sometimes load the datasheet as "MSP430xxx.pdf" while you can get the very same datasheet presented as "MSP430yyy.pdf" from a different processors product page. Then I rather prefer the 'SLAUxxx.pdf' naming.
