MSP430FE4232 and AC voltage

I was looking at the datasheet to see how to handle or adjust my voltage so that no negative voltage is applied to the inputs of the ESP430. But I noticed that there is nothing like that done. I it safe for me to apply AC to the analog inputs and exactly what is the maximum negative voltage that the chip can handle?

  • The FE devices (and only those) accept a negative input voltage for the ADC. Differential Input must be in the range of +-0.6V and needs to be within +-0.5V (peak value, not RMS) to be within the specified performance range.
Absolute input limits are AVSS-1V to AVcc. So applying +-0.5V absolute AC voltage is fine.

The other MSPs (non-FE) accept only AVss-0.1V and cut off any negative offset.

Keep in mind that AVss must not be lower than DVss-0.2V (and should be equal to DVss)

See page 29 of the device datasheet SLAS616.pdf
