MSP430F2254 not working properly when USCI is initialized and FET430UIF is removed from the jtag connector

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2254

Hello,

I have been developing a system for controlling DC motors based on MSP430F2254 for the past two months and everything work without problems. I decided to add a simple RS-232 monitor that can be activated with sending a character from PC. The function of the RS-232 is that the user can manually control the motor by enering command to the hyperterminal of the PC. I initialized the USCI, wrote my code and programmed the MSP430F2254 and it works as expected. But when I remove the  FET430UIF programmer from the Jtag controller of my PCB the microcontroller starts acting very bizzare. The RS 232 communication fails, the DC motors starts moving randomly. I do a POR but there is no effect.

If anyone has encounter a problem of this sorts with the FET430UIF I'll appreciate the help

Thank you

YOu don't have problems WITH the FET, you have problems WITHOUT it.

I'd suspect your power supply or your reset pin logic. In both cases, an attached FET may have a 'healthy' effect on an otherwise badly behaving PCB and environment.
