MSP-EXP430F5529LP: Doesn't want to communicate with PC

Part Number: MSP-EXP430F5529LP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC7200EVM, , TDC7200, CCSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Hello,

I purchased TDC7200EVM with MSP-EXP430F5529LP development kit. When I connect it to the USB with Win11, device manager seeing two ports available with name "USB Serial Device (COM6)" and "USB Serial Device (COM7)".
When I started TDC720xEVM and choose TDC7200, It displayed a window "Connect Failed! Check the COM port number."
Then I changed "SERIAL PORT" in menu of TDC7200EVM to COM6, or COM7 it displayed the same window "Connect Failed! Check the COM port number."

How I can solve this problem?

BR
Ivan

  • Hi Ivan,

Did you follow the "MSP430 Firmware Upgrade" section of the TDC7200EVM user's guide?

    https://www.ti.com/lit/snau177

You should see MSP in your com port selection. (see Figure 3 in the user's guide)

    Regards,
    Luke

  • Hi Luke,

Yes I followed the "MSP430 Firmware Upgrade" but the software which it doing, displayng "Connect Failed! Check the COM port number."
How I can upgrade firmware without it? My manager devices displayed "USB Serial Device (COM6)" and "USB Serial Device (COM7)" as I wrote before.

    Regards,

    Ivan

  • Hi Luke again,

I have some updates. When I open the TDC7200 GUI and clik on debug and then I click on "Update Firmware", It displays "Register time out. Try Again!".
It does not display the window as look in Figure 2.

    Regards,

    Ivan

  • I Have next updates.
I tried uptade firmware on second PC with win 10 and it worked. Then I connected the evaluation board back to the pc with win 11 and it still does not want to connect throught any COM ports :-( I need this to work on a company computer that has Windows 11. I think, that it has problem with win 11 compactibility. Nevertheless now evalboard has firmware updated and it is good progress, but it only works on a private PC.

  • Hi Ivan,

Ah, this sounds like a drivers issue then between windows 10 and windows 11. Let me check if there's anything on our end that we can do to assist, are you able to update drivers on your Windows 11 machine?

  • Hi Luke,

Yes I need help, because I try to solve it two days and I haven't efficiency progress. I discovered a few threads unfinished of the same problem. I tried to install the driver manually, but I am not sure if I'm installed correct thig. I tried to install CCSTUDIO (is it the driver?). But it has problem with mi account folder name and my account is managed by my company. Thats why I cann't install it. Do you have any idea / other ways, how I can solve this problem?

  • Hi Ivan,

Are you able to program the MCU with CCS Cloud? https://dev.ti.com/ide

    Regards,
    Luke

  • Hi Luke,

I have never done that, but I assume you will give me some source package? If yes, maybe it will be easy? I can try install IDE and then will wait for your next instruction.

  • Hi Luke,

For faster progress I decided move it back to my home private computer, where yesterday it works. But now it does not work also on my home computer with Win 10. I do not understand why? I tried to change USB ports, but didn't have any effects. I tried again upgrade Firmware, throughth win 10 and now it does not work. Yesterday it worked... In device manager I can see three CAN ports. If I disconnected the MSP-EXP430F5529LP from USB, all the CAN ports closed (that means, the device is visible for my PC. Can be problem with driver? But why yesterday it works? Can you give me exactly driver which I need? Or, do you have another ways to help me?

  • But it has problem with mi account folder name and my account is managed by my company.

CCS can have issues with usernames with non-alphanumeric characters. But if you goal is to just install CCS to get the drivers, then it may not be a big deal. However, set your TEMP and TMP folders to point to a location outside your user folder to avoid installation errors.

  • Hello Ki,

thank for you answer. In this time I solved issue with devkit. Everything now works well.
