MSP-EXP430F5529LP: Windows 11- unable to send/receive data via USB

Part Number: MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Tool/software:

I inherited the MSP-EXP430F5529LP and downloaded the CCS. I have read through the manuals to get me started. I have a windows 11 machine. I tried one of the examples- C0_SimpleSend that basically connects to the micro and based on their comments in code it should display the time every second on my terminal screen. I used tera term to connect and display. My device manager shows 2 ports ( under COM and LPT) - MCP application UART1 and debug interface. I don't see anything on the terminal. I tried to debug and put in breakpoints and see that it fails to see the USB ( as if it was disconnected). I see a msg pop up on my computer that says USB has malfunctioned and it disconnects. I did disable the option to " allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" . Also, in device manager, under Universal Serial bus controllers - the board shows up as generic USB hub and not board specific.

Any help would be helpful.
