JTAG FUSE BLOW

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F148, MSP430F133

hi,

I am getting an error message thru IAR complier as  security fuse blown what does that mean and in CCE im getting an error as unable to connect to MSP430 :no MSP430  device found

I want to know exactly when the JTAG fuse is blown

and how is it done and is it thru hardware method or  software method  I mean JTAG fuse is blown  thru code  or which method

  • Burning the JTAG fuse is described in our Programming User's Guide, section 8.4.

You can check the fuse using the description in 8.3.1.2

Have you tried a second target to see if the message persists? I suppose it is possible the fuse is blown or perhaps the JTAG connections are not appropriate.

    1. What Hardware programmer are you using?

    2. Are you powering through the tool, or are you using an external (local) power source?

    3. Are you using a TI target board or a custom design?

    4. What particular MSP430 are you using? Are you programming via SBW?

  • Hi Brandon,

I tried to program a second target and 3rd targets too the problem is some times the board gets programmed or I get the error situation is like

say  I got an eror message saying : security fuse blown in using IAR compiler  and if the same  program and  same board using CCE v3.1 professional  compiler I am unable to porgram it,

I am using along  with external power supply s .

    well I am using  MSP-FET430UIF programmer , device MSP430F148

    1.    MSP-FET430UIF programmer

    2.    Yes I am powering the  device along with tool as well  using external source some times it is successful and sometimes it is unable to program it saying differrent kinds of error

              error1: security fuse blown

error2: failed to initialise device or device found is mismatched with the one mentioned say it recognizes as MSP430F133 ( though mention and using MSP430F148)

    3.  Custom design

    4.  I'm using MSP430F148 and I'm using JTAG 4 wire connections  ( bcoz the MSP430F148 dosent support SPW)

  • Hi Brandon,

I think upgrading the firmware of MSP--FET430UIF does solve the problem or not

Do the error messages vary for one particular MSP430 device, or are the error messages always the same on each particular chip?

What is the Vcc of your external source? Does the error message depend on how the MSP430 is powered during programming?

    3.  Custom design

Does your JTAG connections differ in any way from the FET User's Guide guidelines shown on page 25?
  • Hi Brandon,

                              1. Yes I am getting  various error messages for one particular device while using IAR compiler (error:security fuse blown) and CCE (Error connecting

to   the target: No MSP430 device was found on USB FET 1)

                              2. I 'm using Vcc=3.9V  (regulated to 3V to MSP)as external supply for powering device

                             3.  I'm using the same way as mentioned in FET user's guide.

1 or 2 times the board is getting programmed with or without external power supply  but that is acting as trial and error method the board was getting programmed for about a month without errors , and the problem just began recently without any external hardware change.

So only 1 device is not-programmable? (the other devices you tried work fine?) If so can you verify that the fuse has indeed been triggered/blown by performing the fuse check sequence described in SLAU265?

Also section 8.4.1 lists how the 1xx fuse is triggered. Use these two aspects to rule out a false positive and determine if the fuse is indeed blown.

  • Hi Brandon,

The problem which is haunting me is not with only one device but it is also existing with my custom design board and also with TI target board( MSP430FG4168) , yesturday one of the TI employee visited our site but he too couldnt reslove it , I'm skeptic about the driver of the msp430fetUIF emulator or the CCE software some where the compatibility  between the emulator and CCE v3.1 and we also tried to install or update the emulator's driver from the CCE setup file which is in program files of the windows system and also tried to update the firmware  for the emulator from the tool called FET 430 Vpro from Eleptronic Inc.,

well we are unable to troubleshoot the issue so please guide us in a proper direction
