eZ430-T2012 target board compatible with eZ430-RF2500 dev tool

I have one of the new eZ430-RF2500 wireless development tool and I read somewhere that the old target boards (eZ430-T2012) are compatible with it (they originally work with the older eZ430-F2013 USB stick). I would like to buy some of the older target boards because they are cheaper but I don't really want to buy the older dev tool, also. However, I am looking at the connectors and the new dev tool has a 6-pin one while the older eZ430-T2012 target boards seems to have a 4-pin connector.

Has anyone tried this combination: older target board on newer wireless dev tool? Are any modifications needed to the connectors? Or they somehow work together as I've seen it mentioned?

Yes the older target boards will work with the eZ430-RF2500 development tool. You have to make sure it is alligned properly.

If you look at the eZ430-RF2500 User's Guide (SLAU227), figure 4 illustrates how to connect the older target boards with 4-pins to the 6-pin connector.

Hi,

Yes I have programmed the T2012 in the past using the EZ-RF programmer. The target needs to be plugged "in the middle" such that the two out-most pins are unconnected on the programmer's side. These outer pins are the application UART connections, which the T2012 doesn't have.

i've seen some people hook the UART signals up the to the T20xx target boards and enable a timer-based UART to enable the PC communication.

I am just starting to learn this stuff so I wouldn't know how to do the UART thing but it's great to know it's easy to use the old target board with the new tool. Thanks for all the answers!
