Problems putting MSP430FR5728 in to BSL mode

Thank you for the response.

Did you test it with the chip plugged in to the Launchpad...or did you flash the Launchpad with the BSL Bridge software and then attempt to use the BSL bridge to put the MSP430FR5739 in to BSL mode? 

Also, which of the two entry sequences did you use?:

- BSL Entry Sequence for Devices With Shared JTAG Pins

or

-BSL Entry Sequence for Devices With Dedicated JTAG Pins

If you haven't seen http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp43016-bit_ultra-low_power_mcus/f/166/p/199601/710523.aspx it might be relevant in the future if not now.  Seems pretty unlikely a fresh reel has trashed BSL configurations, but it is possible to write data into the FRAM that will disable the BSL entry recognition (including sequences that are not supposed to have that effect).  Some of the discussion in that thread might also help in finding a workable BSL entry sequence for your chips.

Both BSL and JTAG access to MSP430FR5xxx can be locked out by the contents of FRAM at 0xFF80 to 0xFF83 (in the “Reserved” part of the “Interrupt Vectors”). This is described in the current revision of the user’s guide. Section 1.13 of slau272a.pdf.

As Peter pointed out earlier, it is not likely that you have locked them.

I have tried three different ways to access FR5739 with a PC. They all worked for me.

a) Use the “FramchPad” under control of IAR KickStart with SBW-JTAG.

b) Use the “Emulator” section of the LaunchPad under control of KickStart with SBW-JTAG.

c) Use a G2xxx chip on a LaunchPad as a bridge to a PC that runs BSL Scriptor. This is similar to what Leo suggested. But I did it with assembly code for G2xxx

i use a MSP430G2231 on Launchpad as the UART bridge. It also generates the BSL entry sequence.

The MSP430FR5739 has PJ (which is basically JTAG port shared with I/O capabilities), and TEST pin. This means that you shall use the BSL Entry Sequence for the Devices with shared JTAG pin.
