MSP430F67361IPZ and MSP-TS430PZ100-USB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-TS430PZ100A, MSP430F6638, MSP-TS430PZ100B

I have an MSP-TS430PZ100-USB board (came with a 430F6638).  We have since decided to do our development on an F6736IPZ.  TI's information page for the 6736 shows the PZ100 as an option, however looking at the schematics for the PZ100 it seems quite incompatible.

Is there a documented method of using the PZ100 with a 6736IPZ?  If not, are there any other options?  It would be helpful to bring code up to speed before our hardware is completed, hence the need for something to work with.

The term "PZ100" is ambiguous, as there are several target boards which contain "PZ100". From the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide SLAU278K:

    • MSP-TS430PZ100A (for MSP430F471xx devices in 100-pin PZ packages) (red PCB)
MSP-TS430PZ100B (for MSP430F67xx devices in 100-pin PZ packages) (blue PCB)
    • MSP-TS430PZ100C (for MSP430F643x and MSP430F533x devices in 100-pin PZ packages) (black PCB)
    • MSP-TS430PZ100USB (for MSP430F663x and MSP430F563x devices in 100-pin PZ packages) (green PCB)

    Therefore, for a F6736IPZ I think you need a MSP-TS430PZ100B, rather than the  MSP-TS430PZ100USB which came with a MSP430F6638

There is some confusion on the project pages for MSP-TS430PZ100B and MSP-TS430PZ100C, since both contain the text:

The development board supports all MSP430F643x and MSP430F533x Flash parts in a 100-pin QFP package (TI package code: PZ).

Assuming the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide is correct, I think the MSP-TS430PZ100B product page should say:

The development board supports all MSP430F67xx Flash parts in a 100-pin QFP package (TI package code: PZ).

  • Chester,

Your helpful reply led me in a good direction.

The description for the MSP-TS430PZ100B reads:

The development board supports all MSP430F643x and MSP430F533x Flash parts in a 100-pin QFP package (TI package code: PZ).

It makes no mention the the F67 parts.

I compared the schematic of the Z100B with the pinout of the MSP430F673xIPZ and find they match.  Therefore I think you're correct as to using the 100B.

Now, TI might update the information page for the PZ100B so it properly reflects support for the MSP430F673xIPZ.

I think it would be very helpful that, for each MCU, TI listed directly the supporting hardware/instrumentation, rather than have me engage in research to scope it out.  On the other hand, it does force one to become more familiar with the hardware :)

  • I talked to TI support and they have confirmed to me the MSP-TS430PZ100B is the correct target board for the MSP430F673xIPZ.
