Hello E2E,

My goal is to jump into the BSL code from an embedded function call. This would allow the firmware image to be updated via the serial port. I have read that certain chips have a customizable BSL area, but the MSP430F4XX has a fixed unchangeable area. My plan is to use the fixed ROM BSL program to reprogram the images without the need of using external signals to enter BSL mode.

What address or how would I jump to the BSL program using a jump instruction or function call? Is this possible? This is for the MSP430F477.

this information should be available actually in the main BSL documentation: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau319e/slau319e.pdf - chapter 5.4 "1xx, 2xx, and 4xx BSL Versions"

However i can't find a specific information for MSP430F47x you are using. But if i look into other BSL of F4xx devices, it seems the necessary step to do a software call to BSL code is the same for all F4xx:

mov.b #00h, &FLLCTL1

br &0C00h

checking the F47x datasheet - http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/msp430f477.pdf, the BSL code also starts from 0xC00.

Maybe you can give it a try to see whether it works

Thanks indeed. I read the same darn app note, but completely missed the discussion about jumping to vector 0x0C00.
