interfacing msp430 with powertip pc1602f

Hello,

I interfaced MSP430 with Saprkfun LCD. Its working fine.

I am not getting output, When i am trying to interface MSP430 with Powertip pc1602f LCD. I found that Powertip LCD requires 5V but MSP430 is 3.3V. please tell me that how can i interface MSP430 with Powertip LCD.

Or basicly, use a transistor as switch controlled by MSP's IO, and supply the transistor with 5V

Hi David,

You most likely need a 3.3V to 5V voltage level translator in order to use the PC1602F with MSP430.

It's unusual that a 5V - 44780/clone based character Lcd - will not accept the 3V3 GPIO levels (if that's what's in play) upon both D_Bus & control lines.

Timing, Lcd initialization, and Vo pin (contrast) all must follow the Lcd's specification.

Should the Lcd's pixel field fail to reveal - likely suspects include excessive (or floating) Vo pin. Usually - but not always - Vo of 0.5V will be a good start. As always - some attention to the Lcd spec pays off...
