Interfacing 5V LCD to MSP430F427A / MSP430F4784

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F427A, MSP430F4784

I want to interface 5V LCD to MSP430F427A / MSP430F4784.

Both processors have Vio = 3.3V. How to interface the processors to 5V LCD?

How to change contrast voltage?

There are at least two threads talking about subject already. Try using forum search, "LCD" and "5V" keywords.

Either using potentiometer or PWM of msp430 and level-shifter.

  • The MSP430F4xx chips can drive LCD Glass directly. You are probably talking about a LCD Glass integrated with a 5V-controller on the back, In that case, you are better off using other MSP430 families.

Some of the "5V" LCD controllers actually only need "3V" interface, only the contrast need to be between 4V and 5V below the "3V". Hence it should be between -1V to -2V relative to ground. You can generate that with a PWM and diode-capacity circuit.
