MSP430 Touch Power Designer GUI - no calculation

Hello,

we have some strange behavior of the power designer GUI 1.1:

win7 - installation as admin - two different desktop-PCs.

After installation there is no calculation (Scan rate too high)

of the estimated device currentr with any system parameters nor system statistics.

Is there any hint for further investigation ? - normally no big deal to install.

Best regards

Dietmar

  • Hi Dietmar,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems.  Just to clarify: are you saying that after installation, when the System Parameters are set to their default settings, there is no output (Estimated Current or System Statistics)?  Below is a screenshot of the output you should expect to see after a clean install.

Would you be able to sent me a screenshot of what you see on your side?

    Regards,
    Walter

  • Hi Walter,

    thank you for your reply.

    - Yes after installation there is are no default statistics.

Only the message: Scan rate too high.

At the moment on 3 PCs same reaction (all win7 ultimate).

A new download didn't change anything.

Maybe interesting: The information of the reponse time is missing (at 20Hz default)

  • Thanks for the clarification.

Are you able to see device/vcc/frequency options in the selection drop-downs, or is the device selection drop-down blank (as is shown in the screenshot below)?  I'm trying to make sure that the GUI is able to find the device configuration files correctly.  If for some reason they weren't there, you would see a screen like the one shown below.

    Walter

  • devices are o.k.

DCO-f is o.k.- even with lower power lower frequencies to choose

Vcc is without dot (36 instead of 3.6) but you can choose 36, 33. 27, 18

  • What version of the Microsoft .NET Framework is installed on your machines?  The application requires at least the MS .NET Framework 4 Client.  You can look this up in your Windows Control Panel under Programs and Features.

    Walter

  • .NET Framework 4 Client Version 4.0.30319

    Dietmar

  • Thanks- I'm looking into this.

  • Hi Dietmar,

I think this is an issue with how .NET is handling Windows 7 regional codes.  I was able to reproduce what I think is the failure you are seeing.

Does the screenshot below match what you are seeing?

Would you be able to test something on your end to verify that I have found the correct problem?  If you temporarily switch your regional settings in Windows 7 to "English - United States" and open the GUI, the problem should go away:

I'm looking into a permanent fix for handling regions.  If this is does fix your problem, would you be able to share which region you are using?

    Thank you,
    Walter

  • Hello Walter,

    You are the best ;-)

The screenshot is exactly what I saw.

And the change of the region is the solution.

    I use (normally) "Deutsch(Deutschland)" = "German(Germany)".

It seems to be aproblem with the decimal separator.

    Best regards and Thank you!

    Dietmar
