MSP430F5336 secure issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5336, MSP-GANG

Hi,

When i tried to blow fuse for MSP430F5336, systems shows it is not secured. however, when i tried to connect via JTAG, i always have error #23.

here is the memory option:

what happened? how can i tell if the unit is secured correctly?

thank you.

  • Hi Lisa,

It looks like your image with the memory option didn't come through - can you try posting it again per these steps: e2e.ti.com/.../149.4-3-inserting-an-image-on-e2e

Could you provide also the MSP-GANG version information? (in the GUI go to About > About and it should give you information about your firmware version etc. If you are not using the most recent version already, you may want to try the most recent version (currently 1.1.12.0) with a fresh device and see if the issue persists. software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

Looking in the MSP-GANG user's guide www.ti.com/.../slau358, error 23 is "MCU device Init".

It looks like you were programming in a custom BSL into the BSL area of the device, correct? Could you try to access the device using this BSL, and read out the part to see if everything matches your expected programmed values? In addition, if you have BSL access, you should be able to read out the JTAG fuse area to see if the fuses have been programmed (to lock the device) or not. These are in the BSL area at addresses 0x17FC through 0x17FF. If there is anything besides 00000000 or 0xFFFFFFFF in these addresses, then the device is locked - see the F5xx user's guide at http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slau208

  • Hi Katie,

    Thanks for great help.

After upgrading the firmware, i got it secured successfully. The problem was we are able to program and secure a blank new board, but had problem to secure a programmed board.

however, i encountered problem while trying to install the newer version using the msi setup file.

so i installed the newer version using setup.exe file.

  • Hi Lisa,

So it sounds like it works correctly now that you have updated your MSP-GANG firmware, and the issue is closed?

For the version 1.1.12.0 installer - I was unable to reproduce the error on my computer. Had you already unzipped the download zip file before trying to run the .msi file? Please let me know if additional support is needed, or if you have everything installed and working correctly now.

    Regards,
    Katie
  • Hi Katie,

Yes, you can close the issue.

Regarding to the installation package,, i unzip the file and run the msi file.

Anyway, the setup.exe works as expected, and now problem is solved. To report the issue just for your notification.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Lisa
