MSP430F5232 JTAG programming fails

We have an MSP430F5232 on a board with JTAG connection, it will not program with either the new MSP-FET or with MSP-GANG Programmer. In addition, if I put another bare 48pin MCU in a MSP-TS430RGZ48C debug board, it also will not program. The gang programmer gives ERROR 23: MCU device init Failed. Programming with IAR 6.30.1 and the JTAG gives similar error.

I am wondering if the batch of MSP430F5232 parts we have are all defective? Usually there is some setting I forget to set, but I have checked every setting.

Update, I see that the MSP-TS430RGZ48C board is not pin compatible with the 5232. I will need to jumper the jtag.

Update and possible answer. The board was laid out with RST going to the JTAG but it appears from the data sheet that it should actually be the RSTDVCC/SBWTDIO pin.

Hi Wayne,

Yes per the Table 6 JTAG Pin Requirements and Functions, the RSTDVCC pin should be used for programming on this particular device. If you want to have a schematic to compare your programming connections, you can check the hardware tools user's guide www.ti.com/.../slau278 schematic for the MSP-TS430RGC64C (which is also the correct target socket board for this device - the target boards typically only support the largest superset variant in one package of the device in this case the F5249 variant I think is the one available in 64 pin QFN).
