I think you need to re-consider using that Universal Bootloader Interface (Reference SLAU319).
Looking at the picture in your post, where can your user find a PC look like that? Do you expect the PC to accommodate DB-9 connection to UART?
Review the BOM, can you get those components?
Actually, that picture is showing the correct kind of PC the Universal Bootloader Interface (Reference SLAU319) is designed for. The problem is they are both difficult to find and support.
You should consider using a USB to 3.3V UART converter chip instead of that ancient design.
