Hi,

I am new with MSP430 launchpads. I got MSP430FR4133 for my project. I want to measure the electricity using this. As i read, it has inbuilt 10 bit ADC.

I have read somewhere that i should use Current transformer for that But how can i measure the current and voltage of single/three phase supply. And where should i apply this voltage and current inputs to microcontroller.

Please help me to do this thing.

Any reply will be highly appreciated.

Hi Jayu,

The MSP430FR4133 device is not a good fit for energy metering as the ADC10 does not offer reliable sampling over a large dynamic range, cannot sample AC values, and cannot simultaneously sample two channels.

My recommendation is that you use one of our energy meter devices, like the MSP430FE427A, MSP430F471xx, MSP430F4794, MSP430F6736, MSP430F677x(A), or MSP430AFE253 to name a few. Here are some resources to help get your project started:

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your mentioned information. It is really helping. But any how can i do energy metering using my msp430fr4133. I just want to do some basic calculation and display it on lcd.
Or i have to buy another controller compulsary?

Hello Jayu,

I've already mentioned the reasons as to why the MSP430FR4133 is insufficient for energy metering and therefore why TI does not provide any instructions for doing such with an ADC10 device, but by using the correct external analog hardware you may be able to get some basic functionality working on the analog input pins. I'm not sure of what online resources exist to help you in this regard.
