Msp-fet430 with different processors of same class

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F1232, MSP430F1122, MSP430F2132, MSP-TS430PW28

Hello,

I am using msp-fet430 for debugging my project. With the package i received msp430f2132. Now when i flash msp430f2132, debugger connects and emulates but when i try to flash msp430f1232 or msp430f1122 i get message of i.e.

Error connecting to the target: Unknown device.

In the prodcut description it says that this debugger is for msp430f1x or msp430f2x.

SHould not i be able to debug above mentioned processor with the tool that i mentioned. link to the tool is as:

  • Hello Usman,

The MSP-FET430U28 supports MSP430F11x1, MSP430F11x2, MSP430F12x, MSP430F12x2 and MSP430F21xx MCUs in a 28-pin SOIC package (TI package code: DW). This includes all devices you mention attempting to flash. Please make sure that the devices are properly connected to the target socket and that pin 1 of the device matches the pin 1 marking on the board.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • Hello Ryan,

    Thanks for the answer.

I have PW socket on the evaluation baord instead of DW. but all the devices mentioned above are PW package but strange thing is that it flashes msp430f2132 (that came in delivery) but not other i.e. msp430f1122 and msp430f1232.

really strange and i dont understand why it does not support these devices.

Any kind of help will be appreciated.
  • Usman,

I've checked the datasheets of each device mentioned and the VCC, GND, and JTAG lines are all at the exact same pin location so the IDE should most definitely be capable of recognizing the devices. I must once again emphasize that pin 1 of the device be connected on the top left side connector of the target socket. What is the IDE version and type that you are using? Can you include a picture of the devices connected to the target board?

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • Hello Thanks for the answer,

yes i have tried number of times and i check before trying if i have placed the pin 1 correct position. I am using ccs v6.0.1

How can i send you the pictures? I also have checked that pin position and size of the devices are same so it is really frustrating and annoyning for me after many tries that it dos not work. It works for msp430f2132 but not for msp430f1232. strange thing is that both devices has 28 pins and same jtag pins position and on TI web page it says that msp-TS430PW28 is able to support these devices but for me it is not.

  • And you can confirm that the MSP430F1232 is a new, working device which has not been tampered with? Can you verify correct operating voltage at the Vcc pin? Do you have any other F1232 devices to test? You would attach the image to the thread post by using the tools under rich formatting.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • I have new F1232 chip, i can test that on monday and will let you know the result. Attached are the msp4302132 and msp431232 chips
