Regarding Mesh Network support in Sub-GHz; TIDM-SUB1GHZ-MESH-NETWORK

Hi,

In reference to TIDM-SUB1GHZ-MESH-NETWORK solution, I would like to where is this mesh implemented, whether in RF module stack or in MCU.

we are looking for Sub-1GHz Low Cost Low Power Mesh Network solution (preferably MCU + RF transceiver integrated) for measurement application.

Could you please clarify whether this design supports the same.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Ijaz

  • Hi ljaz,

The mesh is implemented on the RF module stack and not the MCU. This TI Design supports the type of application you are looking for, I will notify the design author as to your inquiries so that he can provide further advice if necessary.

Edit: Sorry for the confusion, but the mesh network firmware is programmed to the MSP430 so that it can properly drive the CC1101 transceiver.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Hi Rayan,

Thank you so very much for your prompt reply.

I could also find an application note titled "CC430-Based Wireless Mesh Network Mains Switch", Link: www.ti.com/.../slaa487.pdf

We are looking for a smart metering solution to be implemented for rural electrification. Out of these two designs which one you suggest for our application (most compatible one).

I would also like to know the possibility of getting source code and support (TI designs) for our application development.

We are a kind of stuck in module selection. If this does not work we have to think for other alternatives.

I really appreciate your help and support. Thank you.

    Regards,
    Ijaz
  • Hello Ijaz,

For metering solutions you should definitely focus on SLAA487. This application report has not been made into a TI Design but all source files are already provided in a link at the end of the Abstract: www-s.ti.com/.../slaa487.zip

  • Hi Ryan,

    I really appreciate your suggestions.

But I could not find any "Application Software & Framework" to start with. I have downloaded the source files for mesh implementation for both designs.

We are using a metering IC over SPI interface. So would like to have SPI driver examples (read/write) for our application development.

Actually I am confused. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Regards,

    Ijaz

  • Ijaz,

Inside of the source code package under "Wireless Mesh Network Mains Switch/Node Firmware-Compiled by CCS/mesh network mains switch" are the metering code files of interest (folders rf and measure) as described in Section 8.1 of SLAA487. All RF communication procedures use SPI to communicate between the MSP-EXP430FG4618 and CC1100.

    Regards,
    Ryan
