BOOSTXL-EDUMKII: Buzzer No Longer Functioning

As the title of the thread indicates, the buzzer no longer works on my device. It worked when I received it, but suddenly stopped functioning. The device has been restarted many times and I have compiled / uploaded software to the device from multiple computers. Furthermore, those same computers / programs work just fine on other identical devices.

I was told by customer support to post about this here to determine if I am eligible for a replacement.

Unfortunately the buzzer is one of those types that needs to be driven by a frequency, so only powering for a test will not work (the advantage is that you can vary the frequency). Anyway - if other boards work with the same software, then I don't see any other issue than a faulty buzzer, a damaged Q5 transistor or a bad connection between J4 (40), R31 to J4 or to Q5, Q5 to GND or to BUZ1 or from BUZ1 to +3V3. D2 could be shorted, but this should restart your board everytime the buzzer should get active. Do you have an oscilloscope to trace the signal, starting from the MSP's pin going over to the base of Q5?

I unfortunately do not have easy access to an oscilloscope.

Do you have a multimeter? Some have a frequency counter you could use to see if there is some action on the pin. If it does not have one, it might be able to deal with higher AC frequencies or even at DC you should see something - might be half of the MSP's supply voltage.

Using a digital logic probe, we were able to detect pulses all the way up to R31. Unfortunately the logic probe was incapable of detecting anything past R31.

Can you measure if the transistor is shorted?
