MSP430F6735A: ESD grade of MSP430F673x

Part Number: MSP430F6735A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EVM430-F6736, MSP430F6735, MSP430F6736,

Hi TI Folks,

  Good day to you.

We are going to design a Single-Phase Electronic Watt-Hour Meter using MSP430F6735IPN refer to TI EVM EVM430-F6736, We need your teach in below questions:

1. Is it suitable to use MSP430F6735 replace MSP430F6736 in Single-Phase Electronic Watt-Hour Meter design?

2. What's difference between MSP430F6735 and MSP430F6735A ?

3. What's the MPN has the highest ESD grade in MSP430F673x family and also can be used for Single-Phase Electronic Watt-Hour Meter application.

By the way, When turn on the stun gun near the TI EVM EVM430-F6736, then found LCD blinking / Reset, we need to solve this problem using higher ESD grade MSP430, please advise.

best regards

  • Hi Jiang,

    1. The only difference between these components is 4 kB less RAM, if you do not require this additional space then you can replace devices.
    2. Differences between A and non-A devices are outlined by the following Application Report (SLAA666), please note that non-A devices of this family are not recommended for new designs (NRND): www.ti.com/.../slaa666.pdf
3 & 4. All devices of the same family have similar ESD performance, however the A device hardware includes improved ESD performance as described in SLAA666. Please also follow the MSP430 system-level ESD considerations (SLAA530): www.ti.com/.../slaa530.pdf

To conclude, you should definitely be using a MSP430F673xA device in your design.

    Regards,
