MSP430FR59471: Programming through Spy-Bi-Wire

Part Number: MSP430FR59471
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET430UIF, MSP-TS430RGZ48C

Hi i hope you guys could help me. I´m using MSP430FR59471 on my own PCB, but i can't program it ( CCS responds unknown device). I really tried everything, i checked all connections, i tried it with and without a capacitor in the SBWTDIO Line, i tried using external power or internal from the MSP-FET430UIF ...
I couldn´t get it to work. Is there anything special about this MSP ??

Here is the schematic

thanks in advance for any help

  • Hi Martin,

Make sure to connect VCC to JTAG pin 2 for FET power or 4 for external power supply, GND to 9, RST to 1, and TEST to 7. Short AGND & DGND, make sure that the microcontroller is oriented properly (i.e. pin 1 is where you expect it), and keep the lines between the FET and target device as short as possible. You can use MSP-TS430RGZ48C as reference for the 48-pin QFN package.  You can also try accessing through the BSL or monitor the communication lines for any discrepancies.

  • I have the MSP-TS430RGZ480 and used it as reference... Connections are correct.
With CCS i have a strange behavior, i get alternating error messages. One is unknown device, the other is security fuse blown
  • This implies quite an unstable SBW communication, possible due to parasitic capacitance on the TEST/RST lines. Make sure these traces are as short as possible and similar in length, perhaps even remove the 1 nF capacitor. You can try changing the JTAG/SBW speed inside of the Target Configurations of your ccxml file.
