MSP430F6733: SD_24B VREF pin, a larger capacitor

Part Number: MSP430F6733

Hello,

My customer put 1000nF=1uF on the VREF pin. Is it no problem for the SD24_B?

The DS recommends 100nF and accepts even 'no caps'. Then how about a larger cap like 1uF?

Under SD24REFS=1, the pin is fed 1.2V by a buffer. I'm afraid if the buffer works with a larger cap.

  • Hello Hideaki,

100 nF is recommended to reduce any reference voltage noise. It goes to follow that a larger capacitance at this pin will not do any harm. If an external reference was input to this pin (SD24REFS) the recommended capacitance actually becomes 10 uF + 100 nF. Therefore there is no issue with having a 1 uF capacitor on VREF, just make sure the software initialization gives the internal reference enough time to settle properly.

    Regards,
    Ryan
