MSP430FR5994: SPI configuration of BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM utilizing MSP430 8-bit mode

Hi all,

I know about SPI interface, I know about 1-bit communication between SPI modules, but I have trouble to have consistency in communication between DRV8305N and MSP430FR5994 in 8-bit mode even I close each 16-bit packet with nCS. However, there are no issues when connecting DRV8305N with C2000 in 16-bit mode. And I had no issues with other 16-bit mode SPI devices.

So, I'm confused. :) Can anyone confirm that DRV8305N can communicate with MSP430 through SPI interface without issues?

Hi Alexey,

I do not see any specifications in the DRV8305 datasheet which cannot be met by the MSP430FR5994. TIDA-00645 and TIDA-00771 even use a MSP430G2553 and DRV8305. Please post logic analyzer or oscilloscope screenshots of the SPI communication lines. Make sure that you are using the correct clock polarity (UCCKPL = 0) and phase (UCCKPH = 0).

Hi Alexey,

As Ryan requested, please post oscilloscope captures of the SPI communication. Reading register 0x5, 0x6, or 0x7 are ideal because the defaults are non-zero.

Thank you all, I found that UCCKPH flag was not zero. Changing this solved my problem.

By the way,

The MSP-EXP430FR5994 board is not fully compatible with BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM booster-pack because TB0.2 is not accessible through P7.3 pin and analog input is not usable on P4.7 pin. So, full 3-phase inverter application for BLDC-motor control is unavailable for this board. Unfortunately.
