How can i program in a manner such that the LED should be in off state initially until the button is pressed?

Hi Chidambaram,
I'd initilize the LED's GPIO LOW and use the button's interrupt to set the LED high.

Check out these 2 examples. You will need to port them to the pin you are using for the button. I think the second one is closer to what you are looking for.

With Polling:
