Hi Charles,

If I didn't miss anything you are currently facing two challenges:

1) Disconnecting JTAG and

2) Measuring XT2 without JTAG connection.

1) Please take a look at the MSP430 Programming with the JTAG Interface User's Guide, especially Section 1.3.2.1.6 Release Device from JTAG control and see if this helps you any further.

2) Can you specify what is not working here? Are you referencing that a XT2 fault is not detected when JTAG is disconneected or are you attempting to measure the XT2 frequency and that is not working?
