MSP430F5131: Problem when programming with MSP-FET

I'm using MSP430F5131

i wrote a code in IAR Embedded Workbench,

once i try to download the program i get an error message :

Mon Apr 30, 2018 12:48:56: Fatal error: Could not find device (or device not supported) Session aborted!

im also using a custom made board which generates 1 pulse per second (GPS purposes).

I have already double checked my board and it seems that the MSP430 works properly (gets the amount of voltage its needed - more than 1.8V).

The connection method that i used is SBW and i connected it exactly as its shown in the data sheet.

I disconnected the MSP-FET debbuger from the board and tried to download the program again - the same error message pops up again - seems like the problem is related to the MSP-FET debbuger .

Do you know what causes this problem?

p.s.

i already tried to short J5 JTAG pins on the dubbger board in order to recover it , also updated its firmware.

It looks like your missing the 330 ohm resistor on TCK/TEST.

Thanks for the quick reply ,

In the datasheet SLAU138H , page 26 - the SBW connection is detailed .

If you'll look at Note C , its said that R2 (330Ohms) is used ONLY if fuse blow functionality is needed , in my case i dont need it and thats why its not connected at all as pin TEST/VPP is also not connected.

It looks like you are powering the board externally, in which case you need to use the VCC_Sense connection (J1 connection in picture). You could also try programming the board unpowered with the J2 connection.

Hi Omer,
Is this a new PCB, or has it been programmed before?
Something to check would be to ensure the R and C values of the components are as expected, I've seen the wrong resistors and caps placed before. Also you may want to check the physical traces as well, as I have also seen hairline fractures cause this issue.

it hasnt programmed before, and i have checked the R and C values and its fine as well as the physical traces.

maybe this could help , when i try downloading the program to the MSP430 , it starts with configuring debugger (launching debug session) then i got the error message

Hi Omer,

It looks like your cables are too long. Try going directly into the FET without the ribbon cable, or using a ribbon cable that is half that length.

Yes, plus increase in noise, effects on the values of the passives, etc.

I think I found your issue. Try changing your Vcore cap to 470nF and the DVcc capcitance to 4.7 uF, in accordance with table 5.3 in the data sheet.

you are talking about the overall capacitance of 4.7nF? cause i got 2 capacitors in parallel connected between 3.3V bus to GND of 100nF and 10uF. ---> should i remove those 2 caps and replace them with one of 4.7nF between 3.3V and GND?

No, Cameron comment is related to VCore cap, that should be 470nF. Total capacitance of 100nF + 10uF close to chip is OK, and changing this to 4.7uF will not resolve MSP-FET SBW communication problem.
