MSP430F5340: Capacitor value range for Vcore

Part Number: MSP430F5340
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5438A

On page 37 of the datasheet for the MSP430F5340 is shows 470nF hooked to VCORE, but does not give a maximum or minimum.

Would you be able to recommend the upper and lower bound (to account for component tolerance)?  Could I get away with a 470nF +/-20% capacitors on VCORE?

Thank you for your support!

  • Hello Errol,

That sounds reasonable. For the MSP430F5438A, there's a footnote (#3) under the table in Section 5.3 recommending a tolerance of no more than +/-20% for VCORE. More importantly, please follow the CVCC/CVCORE > 10 recommendation to ensure proper timing between the core voltage and the supply voltage.
