Is this switch operated mechanically or can you control it electrically? If it's purely a mechanical switch, then a relay will be required. If the switch can be controlled electrically, then it may have a built-in relay. Relays have a primary side (high voltage and current) and a secondary side (low voltage and current). The MSP430G2553 would control the secondary side. Just make sure the secondary voltages don't exceed the maximum inputs to the MSP430G2553.

Regardless how the switch is operated, it's still most likely making a mechanical connection which would be prone to wear over time, especially if it's controlling the direction of a DC motor. In addition to your approach, I would recommend that you look at our DC motor drivers.

Yeah it's a mechanical switch, the rating on the switch is 6A, 250V AC.
The relays which I have, some requires 5V supply and some require 12V supply, but the MSP can provide only 3.6V, so how can I resolve this voltage related issue.

Well, a relay is an electromechanical switch that's controlled by electrical signals whereas a switch like a light switch is purely mechanical operated by your hand. If you have a relay, you may not need a purely mechanical switch unless you'd want to add one for safety reasons. A good reference may be our Three Output Smart Power Strip Reference Design (TIDM-3OUTSMTSTRP). I'd also recommend searching online for these types of configurations. Well I connected the switch using 22kohm resistance, and was able to switch the direction of dc motors. But I am facing a problem here, the problem is I am not able to switch the directions of dc motors immediately, there is some delay occurring when I am switching the motor from one direction to another. Can u help me out in this problem please.

Hi guys,

I want to turn on my MSP430G2553 using external battery source and as soon as it powers up i want the MSP430G2553 to start executing the previously dumped code. Whether MSP430G2553 has this feature. If not what is the solution.
