Error encountered: No MSP430 device was found on USB FET 1

first, I recommend to download the latest edition (V4.2.0.10018) of CCS. You can find it here http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS

Be shure to install the software before you plug in your MSP-FET430UIF. A 'how-to-guide' on installation is here http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/GSG:CCSv4_installation.

Check your jumper settings on the target board (see http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/slau278e/slau278e.pdf) and see if the problem still exists. In additon, you can refer to the FET troubleshooting guide in the wiki http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSP-FET430UIF
