MSP-TS430PZ100C: Target board loads down FET debugger

Part Number: MSP-TS430PZ100C

We are trying to use sample TI code to run a target board with the MSP430F5359.  When the FET debugger is connected, the device is recognized but the code won't run (flashing the on-board LED) the watch crystal does not appear to be oscillating and the VCC is pulled down to 2V (from 3.3)  the VCC jumper is set to ext (powered by JTAG). The board measures high impedance from VCC to gnd when the FET is not connected.

We have tried different Debugger FETs and different MSPs but the results are the same.

What should we look for?

Thank you.

Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Please refer to pages 146 and 147 of the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide for a schematic and visual of how to configure the target socket board for different applications. In the case where you are powering the board using the JTAG interface, you are going to want to set the JP3 jumper to "int" (1-2). This should address the issues with the supply voltages not being correct. Please look at the descriptions for the other jumpers on the board to make sure your hardware is configured correctly.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,
We configured the jumpers per the schematic and notes on SLAU278AE. We monitor the power supply as we start the program. The power supply drops out when the reset is made. It rises up momentarily then drops to zero. A window opens on the screen with the message " Device not found or not supported"

We switched the jumpers so that external power may be used and the power supply did not get pulled down but the same message appeared.
We are using IAR tools. Any thoughts?
  • What does the device manager show on the COM ports when the MSP-FET is connected to the computer?

Have you tried programming another target board to confirm that the MSP-FET is working properly?

Have you tried programming your device with an example code from the TI Resource Explorer from within CCS instead of IAR? I would be interested to see if that works.

I am trying to isolate where the problem is actually coming from. Could you attach an image of your hardware setup and also a screenshot of the error message?

    Best regards,

    Matt
  • Hi,

It's been a little over a week since hearing from you so I am going to mark this post as "TI Thinks Resolved" and assume you were able to solve your problem.

If that is not the case please go ahead and provide your response to my previous post and include any progress in debugging you've made in the last week so that I understand what the current status of your issue is.

    Best regards,

    Matt
