MSP430FE4272: What are the differences between MSP430FE4272 and MSP430FE427?

Part Number: MSP430FE4272
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FE427,

Hi experts!

Please specify what are the differences between MSP430FE4272 and MSP430FE427?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Vladimir,

In addition to comparing the devices from their datasheets and landing pages on the web, you can use our Product Search tool to select and compare multiple MCUs. As you can see from the following comparison, the biggest difference between the two devices is that the MSP430FE427 has three independent 16-bit sigma-delta ADCs while the MSP430FE4272 has two independent 16-bit sigma-delta ADCs:

  • Hi Matt,

Does it mean that additional Sigma Delta ADC costs (5.45 - 2.51) = 2.94USD? it is joke :)

If to be serious... Of course i used product search tool to compare devices, but i would like to understand what i should change in software if i want to move from MSP430FE427 to MSP430FE4272? Do i understand correcrly that if i don't use ADC than i don't need to change anything?

  • Vladimir,

I cannot comment towards the difference in price myself but I will reach out to a marketing representative to try and get some insight into the price difference on the web.

    MSP430FE427 Pinout:

    MSP430FE4272 Pinout:

By referring to the following pin-out, you can see that the ports have a pin to pin match between the two devices (the only difference being that the MSP430FE427 has the I2+/- current channels because it is based on the ESP430CE1 IP which contains three SD ADCs). Note: For more information on the different ESP430 peripheral modules please refer to the following app report: ESP430CE1, ESP430CE1A, ESP430CE1B Peripheral Modules

Since the devices have a pin to pin match, and the memory map organization is the same, all you'd have to check is that each of the device's header files have peripheral registers that follow the same nomenclature. If so then yes, each device's software should be compatible when porting over to the other device, assuming you take into account the SD ADC discrepancy.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Thanks a lot! We can close the topic.
