TIDM-1021: Possibility of liquid tolerance when the TIDM-1021 board is placed horizontally and when it is tilted

Genius 5840 points
Part Number: TIDM-1021

Hello,

I read following thread and document.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/p/791364/2937104#2937104

https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tidue90/tidue90.pdf

I would like to understand the possibility of liquid tolerance when the TIDM-1021 board is placed horizontally and when it is tilted.

From above information, My understanding is that TIDM-1021 can't be placed horizontally from following reasons.

1.When TIDM-1021 board is placed horizontally, large water droplet stays if we pour a large water on it.

       Therefore CapTIvate can't detect touch.

2.When TIDM-1021 board is tilted, water flows continuously if we pour a large water on it.

       Therefoere CapTIvate can detect touch.

But I don't think the situation of 1 and 2 is much different.(Both are covering TIDM-1021 with water)

Could you tell me the details of the mechanism that CapTIvate cannot detect touch in the situation 1?

Regards,

U-SK

  • Hello U-SK,

I have reached out to our water expert to help answer your question.

  • Hello U-SK,

The horizontal cases is based on our test result and we see some cross touch between buttons when water is horizontally on the planel. There will not be false touch but when you touch one button the neighbor buttons may also triggered.

This also depends on how much water is presented to form a water layer. More water will cause more cross touch issues.

    Thanks,

    Yiding
