CCS/MSP-EXP430FR6989: Detect Board Issues with CCS

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR6989

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Good evening. Brand new to the TI MSP platform (and embedded software for that matter) and I'm trying to get started. I recently purchased the above mentioned developer board and installed CCS 10. I connect the board to my computer via the USB cable but I get the following error when clicking Detect Board: {"msg":"COM4: Could not power up the device.","name":"COM4","type":"require-update"}. I read the user guide but unless I'm missing something (which is totally possible) I don't see anything regarding troubleshooting connecting to a PC. I have the MSP Debug Interface attached to COM4 (COM3 is the Application UART1). Do I have the incorrect baud rate perhaps? I didn't see anything about what baud settings should be configured for proper connection. Any assistance would be helpful to get me going. And apologies if this has been addressed before. Please point me to the correct thread if so; my searches weren't turning up anything relevant. Thank you!

  • Hi Daniel,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Launchpad.

It would be helpful if you could capture a screen shot of the message window showing the error.

This sounds like a driver issue. How are you using CCS - in other words did you create a project and are attempting to program the MSP430, or you see this message by simply connecting the Launchpad?
