I want to turn XT2IN and XT2OUT into GPIO.

Hallo,

the control of the pin function is done with the PxSELx bits.

I your case please check the Datasheet (SLAS721E) section 6.13.9.

and the UG (slau208q) section "12.4.14 PxSELRegister"

In this case the GPIO is the primary option and set by default.

Please check the example in the TI Resource explorer (LINK) for better understanding.
