MSP430G2452: Non-destructive Memory

Hi Team,

My customer is wanted to be able to store data in the microcontroller that can be retrieved after power fail without having to re-enter data manually.

As an example: if using the msp430g2452 in a clock, want to save the current time such that after power fail can reload the stored time.

Is this possible? I tried to look at our previous threads here but unfortunately didn't get a proper solution.

Hi Renan,

You should be able to store data to some part of the nonvolatile memory(flash). You're code should retrieve this value from flash and load it into an SRAM variable at the beginning of execution.

Hi Renan,

As you might be aware, there is a limitation to how many times flash can be rewritten reliably. This application note discusses that:

A common approach to avoid rewriting the same flash location too many times is called "wear leveling". The idea is to write the values you want to store into a circular buffer with an index. (instead of rewriting to the same location over and over again) When the system reboots, it searches through the buffer to find the last stored value(the one with greatest index). You can also include a verification byte that lets you know whether the data was corrupted.
