Hi,

My customer is experiencing issues in burning the JTAG fuse

  • The device is powered  by a stabilized 3.3V power supply
  • use a 4 Wires JTAG configuration (TCK, TMS, TDI, TDO) via the MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool
  •  Programing the flask : OK (no errors)
  • Unable to burn the fuse using the MSP-FET, getting an  error
  • consequently,  still get access to the MSP via  JTAG

    Do they have TEST connected to Pin 8 of the MSP-FET? Does their JTAG circuit match the recommended circuit in Figure 2-1 in the MSP Hardware Tools User's Guide?

  • Hi,

    There is no TEST pin  available in the MSP430F2619 version

    They are using the TDI pin instead as stated in the section 2.4 of the below document

    They are using the pro430.

    Correct, the device protection fuse is connected to TDI/TCLK on this device.

    Are they using any series (current-limiting) resistors on the JTAG connections? Please confirm that their JTAG circuit matches Figure 2-1 (excluding the TEST connection since this device doesn't have multiplexed JTAG pins).

    I assume this is a custom board. How long are the wires between the MSP-FET and the board? If they're too long, this could be the issue. What happens if they power the board using the MSP-FET rather than the external power supply? I'm not sure this makes a difference but it's worth checking.

    As discussed offline, the customer is using 40 cm wires. In Section 5.6.6.1 Hardware of the MSP Debuggers User's Guide, a JTAG cable length of 20 cm (max) is recommended. At 40 cm, they’re exceeding that recommendation.

    Can they try a 10 cm cable? As you can see in the following thread, another customer was having an issue blowing the JTAG fuse, and after reducing the cable length, it worked fine.
