MSP-EXP430FR5969: MCU for emulation(MSP430F5528) becomes abnormally hot

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR5969
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5528, MSP430FR5969

I bought MSP-EXP430FR5969 last month.

At first I could write the program(LED-blink program), but suddenly I could not write program. And MCU for emulation(MSP430F5528) becomes abnormally hot when I connect USB.
I think this is an initial failure. Is such a problem common? Can you guarantee it? I bought this MSP from an intermediary site.

  • Hi,

we're very sorry about this negative experience. So far we have not heard about such issues. According to your description, it seems, there is something damaged on the board.

The last thing your could try is disconnecting the MSP43FR5969 from the debug section, by removing all the jumpers connecting the debug section with it. If then the heating up of the F5529 in the debug section does not occur, you know, it's the MSP430FR5969 portion of the board. In this case, it might be related to some code, which you programmed into the MSP430FR5969, which might be driving against some output of the debug section. You could also measure the current consumption of the MSP430FR5969, by removing the supply jumper and supplying the MSP430FR5969 externally with a current limited supply.

If the results indicate wrong code of the MSP430FR5969, your could try to reprogram the device by supplying it externally.

If the indicators point towards board damage, I would recommend you talking to the supplier, you purchased the board from.

    Best regards

    Peter
