MSP430F6726: LCD Ghosting Issue MUX8

Part Number: MSP430F6726

I am driving a LCD using the MSP430F6726 interfaced by an elastomer. The processor is running at 1.0 MHZ using the DCO.  The LCD uses the internal charge pump and operates in 8 Mux Mode.  None of the traces between the processor and the elastomer connections are more than 1.0 inches.

The problem is that there is considerable ghosting of the ‘off’ segments of the display.

Question 1:

The User’s Guide for the processor says that in MUX 1 to MUX 4, the bias can be selected as 1 / 2 or 1 / 3. In MUX 5 to MUX 8, however, this selection bit is ignored.  What is the bias in MUX 8?

Question 2:

As far as I can tell, the only two adjustments I can make in the firmware are the Frequency Clock Prescaler / Divider and the Charge Pump Voltage settings.

Is there an app note or a suggestion for determining the proper settings for the three constants?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide,

James
