CCS/DRV8889-Q1EVM: Programming/Debugging the MSP430F2617 on the DRV8889-Q1EVM with CCS

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2617, MSP-FET

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Cannot program the MSP430F2617  on the development board with code-composer studio, CCS.

Power was applied to the VBAT terminal and the supplied mini USB cable was connected to the development computer.

When trying to program/debug CCS was unable to connect to the device.

I did NOT installed the GUI that can be used to interface and control the motor driver. (Do not need it.)

OS: Windows 10.

CCS: Version: 10.0.0.00010

Is there a driver that needs to be installed for CCS to be able to program/debug on the MSP430F2617 installed on the development PCB? Or, does kit DO NOT support debugging with CCS?

  • Hi Clarence,

The USB interface on that board is only used for UART communication.  To program the MSP430, you would need an MSP-FET to connect to the JTAG header on J2.

I am using 3D printing tube with metal reflectors and am pretty sure it is filled with water.

I will keep test firmware and also try it with water flow later.
