MSP430F6779: Hex file can be used on 6779A / 67791 / 67791A?

Hello,

I understand from slaa666a section 5 that TI advises that when migrating from 6779 to 6779A a code recompile is required with the relevant headers. However I do not have the code and am working with an older machine which has 6779.

Is it possible that burning the hex file for 6779 Rev C. -

Will work on 6779A? Assuming AUX PMM has not been used? Is in use?
Will work on 67791? Assuming AUX PMM has not been used? Is in use?
Will work on 67791A? Assuming AUX PMM has not been used? Is in use?

The intent here is should I order the easily available 6779A or 67791A or wait a couple of weeks and get the 6779.

Hi Husein,

It's best to build your project for the right revision of the device. If you look in resource explorer, you can find sample code projects which you can import(with the right headers) for all these devices:

Hi Leo,

Thanks for the reply, I understand it is best to build for each specific IC.

I do not have the source code for the machine, just the hex file. The original machine has a 6779, which is scarce atm. My question is if I solder / burn a 6779A instead, will it work seamlessly? Case 1: Assuming the relevant module has not been used and case 2 assuming the AUX_PMM has been used?

Hi Husein,

There may be other errata which were corrected in this later version so even though the same image might execute - it may not execute properly. I would recommend replacing the existing F6779 with another F6779.
